Family Business Leadership in an Era of Trust and Transformation

Speakers' Profile
主讲嘉宾简介

Mr Lee Tong Yi
4th Gen Group Managing Director
Lam Hong (S) Pte Ltd

Ms Jiehui Kia
2nd Gen Business Development Manager
Ichi Seiki Pte Ltd

Ms. Kia Jiehui is passionate about sustainability, and committed to making a difference in Singapore-based manufacturing. She is currently Business Development Manager at Ichi Seiki Pte Ltd, her family’s precision engineering business with over 30 years of track record providing equipment and engineering solutions for industries including aerospace, semiconductor, medical technology, marine and offshore.

Jiehui is also the Head of Sustainability Committee of the Singapore Precision Engineering and Technology Association (SPETA) where she works with partners such as the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) to advocate for small and medium sized manufacturers to conduct affordable energy assessments to identify areas for energy and cost efficiencies.

Over her career, Jiehui has worked for the Economic Development Board of Singapore (EDB) in communications and sustainability roles. She was the Principal Sustainability Strategist at Forum for the Future (Forum), an international sustainability non-profit working with businesses to offer advice on sustainability strategies. Forum was founded in the UK in 1996 and Jiehui was a founding member of the Asia Pacific office in Singapore when it opened here in 2013. Her work involves designing change programmes and helping senior management teams set sustainability targets.

Jiehui also co-founded Save That Pen, a volunteer initiative that collects unwanted pens, refurbishes them, and donates them to underprivileged students across Southeast Asia. Her efforts were recognised in the “Eco-Friend Awards 2017”, organized by the National Environmental Agency (NEA).

Mr Daniel Liu
2nd Gen Director (Business)
MORROW Architects & Planners Pte Ltd

Daniel is the Director (Business) at MORROW Architects and Planners, overseeing the firm’s operation and business functions. Not a trained architect or urban planner, Daniel spent the first act of his career as an auditor and in operational roles at KPMG, Wells Fargo, and Starwood Hotels.

Daniel joined MORROW in August 2018, shortly after the firm was founded by his father, Dr Liu Thai Ker, in December 2017. Initially, he only intended to spend a few months at MORROW to help the new team develop business processes and controls while completing his EMBA. However, as often happens, one thing led to another, and Daniel remains part of the firm’s core team.

While admittedly not a natural entrepreneur, Daniel has also started two sub-entities that leverage MORROW’s core urban planning competencies. MORROW Technology was established during the pandemic to develop software that automates repetitive manual tasks in drafting urban plans. MORROW Intelligence, which launched earlier this year, is an urban consulting firm dedicated to designing practical and adaptive urban strategies and policies through data-driven research and foresight planning

A self-described lifelong learner, Daniel has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Sociology from Macalester College, a Master of Public Administration from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and an Executive Master of Business Administration from Singapore Management University. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate, also at SMU, where he is trying to complete a dissertation on the relationship between dynamic capabilities and leader traits in small and family businesses. Daniel is also an avid grassroots volunteer and, in 2022, was appointed Chairman of the Nee Soon East Citizens Consultative Committee.
