He was part of a task force that had to implement a comprehensive BCP during the SARS pandemic when he was working in Shanghai, China. He saw first-hand how badly it affected the livelihood and mental state of his staff and students. Alvin firmly believes that a well thought out BCP should go beyond the protection of an organisation’s operations, systems, infrastructure, reputation and business assets and must include the well-being of its people.

Wee-Tiong is an avid hacker and one the scientists who developed advanced deep learning models to make computers understand human content, behaviours and automating “mundane” tasks, during his 10-year stint as a researcher at A*STAR’s Institute for Infocomm Research where he spearheaded artificial intelligence research development and translation. Today, he uses his inventions to understand labour market inefficiencies, correlate education and skills to employment outcomes and, to help people learn and future-proof themselves with the help of labour market and education data.
